BACKGROUND

Diving into dance.

During my sophomore year of high school, I joined a competitive hip hop dance team called Young Skull Club (YSC). I'm surprised I hadn't tried dancing sooner, having a break-dancing brother and a Zumba teaching mom. At YSC practices, my friend and co-producer, Dominic, would bring cans of Guayaki Yerba Mate to our grueling, five-hour long rehearsals. They were delicious, would quench my thirst, and gave me the energy to push through practice.

Over the next few years, my passion for dance, videography, and photography would grow. By the end of my senior year, I had worked on a few dance concept videos where we filmed original choreography, and threw in b-roll of Guayakí Yerba Mate products. Little did I know, I would be creating a portfolio I would use to pitch a project to their team.

PROBLEM

What's the pitch?

A few days after the release of our concept videos, we had garnered engagement from Guayakí’s social media accounts on YouTube and Instagram. Dominic and I decided it was time to reach out.

After scouring our networks, we were final able to connect with Guayakí's Digital Media Director. At that point, Dominic and I had been working on a concept for about two months in order to hit the ground running. However, our plans quickly changed when our original idea was not the vibe they were looking for, which was entirely our fault. What we failed to realize in our initial concept was that we were no longer making a dance video that was for our personal accounts. This video had to embody the essence of Guayakí.
